Make the system tray configurable

Good morning, I'd like to have custom fields in the system tray. For example, adding links for customers, uploading documents for download, opening a live chat, etc.

It would be absolutely great if the system tray could be customized.

Implementation option: Settings → SysTray

A central section under Settings could allow users to customize the SysTray menu. The following points are suggestions for the design; they do not constitute a commitment to the scope of functionality.

  • Custom Links: Menu items with freely selectable titles and destinations, e.g., customer portal, knowledge base, document downloads, status page, web-based live chat, or appointment booking via Calendly, Cal.com, or Microsoft Bookings. Downloads and chat will initially be links to existing services, not new integrated features.
  • Contact and Help: Display contact persons, hotline, email address, and business hours; provide clickable phone and email links.
  • Menu Design: Add, edit, remove, enable/disable, and sort entries; use groups, submenus, and separator lines for structuring.
  • Branding: Custom SysTray icon, tooltip, logo, and informational text in the menu or notification area.
  • Templates and Customer Assignment: A default configuration for the instance and, optionally, different SysTray templates per customer; reuse templates for multiple customers.
  • Existing Features: Make the visibility and position of existing support/case entries in the menu configurable.

Recommended initial scope: Custom links, contact information, sorting/separator lines, and branding. Customer-specific templates as an extension. Review local program launches, self-service scripts/automations, and dynamic placeholders separately; privileged actions, in particular, require a dedicated authorization and security concept. The support collector requested in the comments is an additional feature and is not covered by a link editor alone.

Comparison with Datto RMM and NinjaOne

NinjaOne: The official documentation describes a central SysTray editor with an icon and tooltip, custom URL and email entries, static text, groups/submenus, separator lines, and sortable entries. Other types include About, Support Form, Program Launch, Automation, and Exit. Templates can be assigned to one or more organizations. Placeholders such as username and computer name are documented for certain entry types. Program launches run as the logged-in user, while SysTray automations run as the system, according to the documentation.

Datto RMM: Customizable agent icons, product/company name, company URL, and support URL are documented, as well as branding of the agent browser. Agent policies control the visibility of the system tray icon and access to standard functions, such as support requests with screenshots. A freely expandable menu builder with arbitrary custom links and submenus, similar to NinjaOne, could not be found on the official pages reviewed.

Auch Ansprechpartner, Nummern etc. als erste Hilfe für den Kunden zu hinterlegen wäre gut!
