Inventorying Devices as an Automation Step

octoja performs an inventory every one to three hours. After a specific intervention, this can only be triggered manually for each device on the device details page. If you roll out the change to multiple devices via automation, you won’t be able to verify its success for hours.

After a patch run via octoja’s patch management, the device automatically performs an inventory immediately; after automation, it does not. The goal is to standardize these two approaches.

First, we need point 1:

  1. An automation step to inventory a device without further configuration, just as “Restart Device” is one. If it waits for completion, a subsequent step can check for it.

  2. The same trigger via the API, for custom scripts without having to go through an automation workflow.

  3. The same entry in the device list, including for multiple selections. It already exists on the details page.

Two points regarding the evaluation: Restarting the device or the agent service does not trigger an inventory check but resets the counter to the next one, so the obvious workaround does not work.
A per-device throttling limit is expressly desired.

Confirmed case: Upgrade from 24H2 to 25H2 via automation; 90 minutes later, after restarting both the device and the service, octoja still showed 24H2.

Hi @Peter Launicke, die manuelle Inventarisierung existiert tatsächlich schon.

Soll ich deinen Feature-Request anpassen, damit er die anderen zwei Punkte behandelt und korrekt eingeordnet werden kann?
