Feature Request: Advanced File Transfer in File Explorer
In Octoja's File Explorer, it is currently possible to transfer individual files to a client or server. This can be done either by clicking the "Upload" button or via drag-and-drop.
However, there are currently limitations when transferring folder structures:
Folders must currently be created manually on the destination system.
If an entire folder is transferred via file transfer, it is not displayed as a folder structure but is treated as a single file, and any files it contains are not transferred.
Therefore, it is currently not possible to directly transfer entire folders, including subfolders and files.
On the positive side, when selecting multiple files, you have the option to compress them into a ZIP file before transfer. This feature is particularly helpful for larger data sets or multiple files.
Desired Feature
It would be very helpful if the File Explorer also offered the option to extract ZIP files on the destination system.
This would allow, for example, an entire folder structure to first be packed as a ZIP file on the source system, then transferred to the client or server via the File Explorer, and unpacked directly there.
Ideally, a function such as “Unzip” or “Extract ZIP File” should be available in the context menu of a ZIP file on the destination system.
Example
Current:
Folder with multiple subfolders and files
→ Manual upload of individual files or ZIP upload
→ ZIP file is located on the target system
→ Extraction must be performed outside of File Explorer, so a remote session is required
Desired:
Folder structure
→ Select multiple files or a folder containing files.
→ Create a ZIP file
→ Transfer ZIP file to client/server
→ Right-click on the ZIP file or file to unzip it.
→ The complete folder structure is restored on the destination system.
This extension would significantly simplify the transfer of entire folder structures and save a considerable amount of time, particularly when performing support and administrative tasks.
